Historic Old Fort - Fort Wayne

This replica of the third fort to be constructed in Fort Wayne A group that called itself Historic Fort Wayne, Inc organized in 1964 with the purpose of recreating the 1814 fort on the banks of the river. The group conducted a fund-raising drive and managed to accumulate the money needed to purchase the property in the late 1960's. After conducting a search to find a company to build the fort, they chose a company called Lok-N-Logs Inc., which is located in Sherburne, New York. Workers of the company used Major Whistler's drawings to construct the fort at their New York facility. When complete, they disassembled it and shipped it to Fort Wayne, where they reassembled it. The dedication ceremony took place on July 4, 1976. Historic Fort Wayne, Inc disbanded in 1984. A new group formed under the same name in 2004 to preserve the fort.
